The switching on of the first Wye Christmas Lights.

 WYE 21st  CHRISTMAS STREET PARTY

Friday 1st December 6pm – 8pm in Church Street

It was 21 years ago that The Wye Business Association raised the funds to provide Christmas Lights for our village. It was 21 years ago that Janet Hullet dripping in borrowed mink and jewels arrived as Norma Desmond our brilliant Hollywood movie star to switch on the lights for the first time. Taylor’s Garage joined in the fun by driving our star up Church Street in their white Rover car where she engaged with the waiting crowd of excited parents and school children. Norma Desmond supposedly just over from Hollywood was introduced to the then vicar the Rev David Stewart-Smith who informed her that he had relations in the USA. Janet’s own Mother did not recognise her and when introduced to Norma she was obviously thrilled to meet a ‘real’ movie star!

Its been 21 years of fantastic support from our Community providing donations of prizes and making facilities available.
