Local MEP Richard Ashworth

Local MEP Richard Ashworth member of the European Parliament’s  agriculture and Budgets committee visited Wye community Farm on Thursday 11 February.
After a visit to the farm’s  livestock and around the Brooke agricultural museum mr Ashworth joined a meeting of the farm team looking at developing the micro businesses which are direct spin offs from the farm itself. Della Newman at spinningearth.co.uk presented her fibre and wool business, directly related to the farm and several of the traditional crafts promoted by the farm were on display: felt making, spoon carving, leather work and also acquiring skills for the restoration of a beautiful old bullock cart.
The farm intends to bid for EU funding in the context of the LEADER programme for some of these micro businesses and skills to develop the rural economy and encourage training and apprenticeships in these key areas.

Mr Ashworth noted how many of these skills and businesses dovetail together with the Farm at their hub.
